Museveni directs official burial for NRM’s fallen CEC Member Simon Aleper

Kampala, (UG):- President Yoweri Museveni who is also the National Resistance Movement (NRM) national Chairman has directed that the fallen party Vice Chairperson for Karamoja, Hon Simon Peter Aleper be accorded an official burial.

The development was announced by Ms Gloria Asia Omaswa, Museveni’s Principal Private Secretary (PPS) in a July 23 letter addressed to the Prime Minister of Uganda, Rt Hon Robinah Nabbanja.

“This is to inform you that H.E. the President has directed that Government grants Hon. Simon Peter Aleper, former Member of Parliament, who died in a motor accident, an official burial,” Ms Kyomaswa stated.

“The purpose of this letter, therefore, is to inform you accordingly,” added the letter copied to H.E. the Vice President Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament Hon. Minister for the Presidency Secretary General NRM Secretariat.

Aleper, 50, also former Moroto Municipality MP and Central Executive Member died in an accident on Tuesday on his way to Kampala when his vehicle, a Toyota Land Cruiser V8 UAP 787Q collided head-on with another motor vehicle killing him on the spot.

Meanwhile, in honour of the deceased, the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) has opened a condolence book at the party secretariat at plot 10, Kyadondo Road, for the general public to register their sympathies. 

The book according to the NRM Secretariat is available for signing starting today, Wednesday, 24th, July 2024, and the public can walk in to eulogize the fallen stalwart of the ruling party.

“The NRM First Vice National Chairman, Alhaji Moses Kigongo, Secretary General, Rt. Hon. @TodwongR, and other Central Executive Committee (CEC) members have signed the condolence book opened at the party secretariat in honor of the late NRM Vice Chairman for Karamoja, Hon. Aleper Simon Peter. The book is also open to the general public starting today, Wednesday,” a post via the party’s official X handle read on Wednesday afternoon.

Popular in his circles as Hon ASPRO, Aleper contested for the Moroto municipality MP seat in the 2021 elections but lost to Hon. Francis Adome Lorika in the race which was one of the tightest in the Karamoja Sub-region.

The fallen former MP is survived by a beautiful wife and six children.
