Museveni’s office mourns passing of NRM CEC Member Simon Aleper

Kampala, (UG):- President Museveni’s Office of the National Chairman (ONC) in Kyambogo has paid tribute to Hon Simon Peter Aleper, the National Resistance Movement Vice Chairman for Karamoja Subregion, Simon Peter Aleper who died in a nasty road crash along the Iganga-Mbale Highway on Tuesday morning.

Aleper, 50, also former Moroto Municipality MP was headed to Kampala for an NRM Central Executive Committee meeting when his vehicle, a Toyota Land Cruiser V8 UAP 787Q collided with a yet-to-be-identified motor vehicle coming from the opposite direction killing him on the spot.

Speaking of Aleper’s untimely passing, Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo – the Senior Presidential Advisor and Political Assistant at ONC expressed her deep sadness for the party’s loss of such an exceptional leader who was representing the Karamoja Subregion at CEC, the party’s top decision-making organ.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and NRM supporters at large. We are currently at the secretariat making burial arrangements,” Hajjat Namyalo said on Tuesday evening, adding that “a burial committee from the party has been set up to manage the funeral on behalf of the family.”

Namyalo further called upon party members to join in mourning Hon Aleper, who was the Vice Chairman of NRM in the Karamoja Subregion as the committee awaits the retrieval of his body from Mulago Hospital mortuary.

“We ask God to forgive him for his shortcomings, and to us who are still alive, God to guide us not to go astray,” she concluded.

NRM leaders mourn Aleper

Hajjat Namyalo’s voice adds to the long list of political leaders who have expressed condolences to the President and the NRM fraternity for losing such a great leader in Aleper.

Yesterday, the Party’s Secretary General, Hon Richard Todwong in a brief statement released via the party’s socials said the party was saddened by the loss of Hon Simon Peter Aleper a former MP and NRM pillar in the Karamoja Sub-region.

“The NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) this morning received with shock the disheartening news of the untimely demise of our Vice Chairman for Karamoja Region, Hon. Simon Peter Aleper,” the statement released yesterday read.

“We convey our deepest condolences to the family, H.E. the President, who is also the NRM National Chairman, the people of Karamoja, and the entire NRM fraternity,” the statement added.

The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, also posted on her X platform (formerly Twitter) saying; “I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to His Excellency @KagutaMuseveni, the family of the late Hon. Simon Peter Aleper, the @NRMOnline fraternity, and the Karamoja subregion on his tragic passing. May the Lord bring comfort to everyone during this difficult time, and may the soul of the departed rest in eternal peace.”

Her voice added to that of government spokesman, Ofwono Opondo, posted, “Ooh, no. May his soul rest in peace.”

Mr Juma Loduk, Aleper’s brother, shared his grief between sobs, recounting that he had been with the late Aleper before his ill-fated journey. “He was with us before he travelled out of Moroto,” Loduk said.

Upe County MP Micah Lolem Akasile, who attended Moroto High School with the deceased, reflected on their long-standing friendship.”I have lost a very good friend,” Lolem said.

The NRM Central Executive Committee also released an obituary, sending deepest condolences to the fraternity and the people of Karamoja.

Aleper is survived by a beautiful wife and six children. The late owned several properties in Moroto town, including the building rented by Wazalendo SACCO.

Popular in his circles as Hon ASPRO, Aleper contested for the Moroto municipality MP seat in the 2021 elections but lost to Hon. Francis Adome Lorika in the race which was one of the tightest in the Karamoja Sub-region.
