Kampala, (UG):- Uganda Cranes assistant coach Sam Ssimbwa Bamweyana has made three changes to the Select Team squad initially summoned for the 2024 FUFA Super 8 tournament scheduled for early August.
Notably, the coach has replaced two players in the initial squad of 29, while one has been included on the roster.
Goalkeeper Derrick Ochan, who left KCCA at the end of last season to join URA FC replaces Hassan Matovu of Soltilo Bright Stars, while defender Gift Fred comes in for LCCA’s Ibrahim Juma.
Furthermore, Express Football Club forward Heiden Lubowa has also been added to the squad that kicked off training at the MUBS playground in Nakawa on Tuesday.
Ssimbwa says he felt optimistic about assembling a formidable team that will play to win.
“They [players] behaved well; they were playing, and you could not think they have not been training because many teams haven’t commenced pre-season training, but the first day it was promising.”
“We are conditioning them tactically and technically tuning them, and I hope in a few days to come we shall have a good team and we shall play to win, and I think by Saturday we shall have a good team.”
The Uganda Cranes Select Team will play against Uganda Premier League defending champions Sports Club Villa on August 3rd at the Mandela National Stadium in Namboole.
In the run-up to the tourney, the team today had a practice match against Kyaggwe Ssaza Team at MUBS Playground winning 1-0 courtesy of Richard Basangwa’s goal.
