Over Shs400m raised as Kigezi Diocese launches Bishop’s Development Fund

Kampala, (UG):- A total of 417.95 million shillings were last evening collected both in cash and pledges as Kigezi Diocese launched the Bishop’s Development Fund (BDF) program as a strategy to build capacity and sustain its strategic development plans.

While unveiling the total collections at Kembabazi Catering Center Naguru, Kampala, the Kigezi Diocesan Head of Laity and the Chairman of the project’s committee Canon Johnson Baryantuma Munono revealed that the Diocesan will hold a mega fundraising function in Kabale District in September 2024 where president Yoweri Museveni and the speaker of parliament Annet Anita Amongi have been invited.

Baryantuma revealed that the first-of-its-kind program, the diocese is projected to establish a shillings 3.1 billion mansion along Kabale-Kisoro road to replace it with the strictures holding diocesan book centre. 

The Canon who is also the Kabale University secretary said that the money will be mobilized through archdeaconries where each one of the 16 archdeaconries is expected to raise 30 million shillings for the main project adding that the program will continue in the Diocese as a tool to build its financial capacity.

The Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi Rt Rev Gaddie Akanjuna commended the Christians for their commitment towards the cause saying the program will also be used in the Diocese to support widows of the deceased clergy in the diocese and other pertinent projects undertaken by the Diocese.

He called upon them to continuously invest in the Education of boy child in order to have the strong foundation of the Church.

The Minister of State for Trade, David Bahati said that once construction is complete, it will raise income thus saving the diocese from depending on only offertories from the believers. He revealed the diocesan project is a direct compliment to Government programs of empowerment.

The Chief Guest, counsel Caleb Amanya who is also a Christian in the Diocese of South Ankole implored Christians to inculcate in themselves a spirit of serving God through offering part of their possessions in recognition of the blessings from God.

The construction of the structure projected to kick off in November 2024 has already been endorsed by all diocese stakeholders.
