SCP Bamunoba tips Kiira region officers on sustaining police image

Jinja, (UG):- The Chief Political Commissar (CPC) of Uganda Police, Senior Commissioner of Police (SCP) Ubaldo Bamunoba Wednesday concluded his first upcountry regional needs assessment tour in Kiira region and he later engaged officers at Civil Service College in Jinja city.

The Director CPC said the tour was aimed at ideological orientation, promotion and sustainability of police image, identifying challenges and providing solutions without necessarily waiting for top police leadership. He stated that the Directorate of CPC is very critical because it is the face and engine of the Uganda Police.

While in the company of CP Political Education CP Paul Nkore, Ag CP Formal Education SSP Jean Nakityo and other senior officers, SCP Bamunoba emphasized to the officers that the mandate of CPC is to develop patriotic and citizens police force, adhere to the core values of the force that is to say discipline, professionalism, integrity, patriotism, human rights compliance among others.

He appealed to unit commanders to support Community Liaison Officers (CLOs) and fully utilize their potential because they clear the way for all officers through continuous community engagements. He instructed RPCs and DPCs to adhere to sending monthly police Baraza returns to his office through regional CLOs.

The Director discussed at length the urgent implementation of the sub-county policing model using the available resources, phone etiquette, customer service, information dissemination, democracy, ideological orientation and its pillars, community policing, corruption, forthcoming heated political environment, human rights, service sector, comfort ministry to officers with challenging situations and physical fitness among others. 

CP Paul Nkore addressed officers on the relevancy of ideological orientation right from the top strategic planning level to the police constable. He pointed out the three policing pillars that is to say; following the law, procedural guidelines and adducing scientific evidence in the due course of investigations.

SSP Jean Nakityo stated that plans are underway to start police secondary schools and vocational institutes on top of the nineteen primary police schools in the country, ten schools being government-aided and nine private ones.

She encouraged police officers to take their children to those respective schools so as to enhance enrollment and performance.

The RPC Kiira SSP Charles Nsaba welcomed the Director and his team adding that crime has significantly reduced in the region due to sustainable community policing programs and cordial working relationships with other stakeholders.

In attendance were; Deputy RPC SSP David Katunda, the R/CID D/SSP Monday Johnson Agaba, R/HR SSP Andrew Muzira, Regional barracks Admin SSP Hamza Kayongo, Kiira regional police spokesperson SP James Mubi, Headteacher Jinja police barracks primary school Mr George Haumba, respective DPCs among other officers at the regional and divisional levels.
