Museveni appoints Col Magezi as Muhoozi spokesperson amid social media bickering

Lt Col Chris Magezi has been elevated to the rank of Colonel and appointed the Military Assistant for Public Relations to the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF)

Kampala, (UG):- Uganda’s President and Commander in Chief of the armed forces, Gen Kaguta Museveni, has promoted Lt Col Chris Magezi from the rank of full Col and assigned him to become the Military Assistant for Public Relations to Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).

Col Magezi takes on the new role with immediate effect with sources close to the CDF murmuring that he comes in to guide the First son on the public relations engagement after a recent spat on X formerly Twitter.

“The message for his promotion came alone which is always done rarely in the military,” State House sources said of the promotion and special appointment.

Maj Tom Magambo, the CID chief, led tributes to Magezi upon his new position. “Comrade Col Chris Magezi. Congratulations on your promotion and well-deserved appointment,” the CID boss wrote on X.

Agriculture Minister Hon Frank Tumwebaze also posted: “Congratulations, Col @ChrisOMagezi on your promotion & advancement in the soldiering profession. I trust your abilities & promotion is well deserved. You did well when we appointed you on the @ubctvuganda board.”

In response, Magezi said: “I am humbled Hon Minister for your belief and confidence in me. We will strive to get better in service of Uganda and Africa whenever and wherever duty calls.”

Formerly the Defence Public Information Officer Land Forces/SPASO, Col Magezi’s appointment to the new position shows the CDF, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s trust in him.

Magezi who had just been on the rank of Lt Col for not more than three years previously served as the SFC’s public relations officer by the time Gen Muhoozi was the commandant of the Special Forces unit.
