Police arrest key robbery suspect after raiding VU student’s room in Rubaga

Kampala, (UG):- The territorial police in Kampala Metropolitan have confirmed the arrest of 32-year-old Mayanja Hassan, the key suspect in the aggravated robbery of a university student in Rubaga, a Kampala suburb.

Police Spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke identified the victim as Arinaitwe Jackiline, a student of Victoria University and resident of Nabulagala Zone in Rubaga Division, Kampala.

ACP Kituuma said the incident occurred on Thursday, August 22, at around 01:00hrs, when Mayanja and a group of assailants armed with a hammer forcibly entered the home of Arinatiwe while she was inside sleeping.

During the incident, police say the suspects assaulted her and stole her laptop, mobile phone, and academic transcripts.

“The victim attempted to resist, resulting in injuries,” said Kituuma.

“While fleeing the scene, the suspects encountered a police patrol team from Old Kampala Police Station, leading to the arrest of one individual, Mayanja Hassan, a 32-year-old male resident of Kisenyi, Kampala Central Division. He later assisted in the apprehension of additional suspects,” the police spokesperson added during a Monday press briefing at Naguru headquarters.

Upon a search at the suspect’s house, Kituuma said police found him in possession of a hammer and all the stolen items from Arinaitwe Mackline.
