Dokolo (UG):- The hopeful Member of Parliament for Dokolo North Constituency in 2026, Joseph John Ogwal has promised to facilitate youth sporting activities in Dokolo district to enable them to compete favourably with the rest from other areas including the Uganda Premier League.
Ogwal’s remarks came while addressing the youth of Okwalongwen Sub County who were gathered at Okwalongwen P.7 playground to witness the football final tournament he organized between five Parishes in the sub-county.
The parishes that participated in the tournament include Aluti, Abalang, Adagnyeko, Akwanga and Okwalongwen all of them walk away with prices and sets of sportswear.
The Abalang Football team won the trophy after beating Adagnyeko football Team 2-1 in the final game.
Ogwal in his remarks noted that he wants to promote sport and culture in Dokolo and encouraged the youth never to lose hope but instead aim higher in sport.
Since 2021, Ogwal has been organising sports competitions, especially football, in all eight sub-counties of Okwalongwen, Dokolo, Agwata, Bata, Amwoma and Adok. Other areas are Bata Town Council and Agwata Town Council which form Dokolo North County.
“I have been doing it in other sub-counties but today I am on board to assist you [Youth] with some sportswear and other equipment that were lacking. My appeal to you is to interest yourself in sporting activities because I want us not to stop here but to aim for Uganda’s premier league,” Ogwal told DailyExpress.
The MP hopeful also used the same platform to call upon the residents of Dokolo North to engage themselves in the production of goods and services to enhance their socio-economic livelihoods.
The Amowoma Sub County LCIII Chairman, Geoffrey Odur who doubles as the political assistant Joseph J Ogwal said that such sports initiatives reduce boredom among the youths that would have resulted in habits of theft, drug abuse, and alcoholism among others.
He said that it will help the youths to improve and discover their talents citing that some youths who are footballers and runners are enjoying their talents by earning money for their wellbeing.
“I also rallied to support JJ Ogwal in the 2026 general elections. He has the quality to rectify persistent challenges in Dokolo North Constituency that continue to cripple its development. So when that time comes, think about him,” Odur said.
In their remarks, a section of youth in Okwalongwen Sub County who participated in the recently concluded tournament observed the need for their leadership to help them via sport instead because of its numerous benefits.
