Police probe death threats against DPC Tugumenawe in anonymous letter

Mpigi, (UG):- The Territorial Police in Mpigi District are currently investigating the source of an anonymous letter sent to District Police Commander SP Julius Tugumenawe threatening to shoot him dead.

According to a police statement, the letter was first dropped at the Mpigi -Gomba taxi stage by an unknown taxi and then brought to Mpigi CPS by an unknown boda boda rider.

“The letter was handed over to Sgt Nabagala (who is also a victim ) in an envelope which was bearing the information threatening the DPC of Mpigi District Sp Tugumenawe Julius and Sgt Nabagala attached to CFPU at Mpigi CPS that they are going to shoot them tomorrow on 30/08/2024 using a gun,” the statement read in part.

The letter also contained the information that it is the same group of gangs that have been stealing in the schools of Butambala some time back.

Now Police said they have opened up inquiries into the case registered at Mpigi CPS as “threatening violence by anonymous letter Vide SD Ref 80/29/08/24”

Also, the numbers one for Tonny 0709581085 and Frank 0708197187 mentioned in the letter have been submitted for analysis and tracking unit to have the culprits arrested.

By press time, police were yet to establish the individuals behind the threats.
