Kaabong, Uganda: The members of Lokere Catchment Management Committee (CMC) have vowed to rejuvenate their efforts in championing environment conservation, following one week of tour and learning about various areas of water resources management in Albert Water Management Zone (WMZ).
The learning visit organised by the Ministry of water and environment (MOWE) with support from Welthungerhilfe consisted of leaders from Teso and Karamoja sub regions which fall under Kyoga water management zone, last week.
Meri Jino, the Chairperson of Kaabong District and Lokere CMC, described the interventions on soil conservation and rain water harvesting in Albert WMZ as educative and urged the members of Lokere CMC to replicate the lessons learnt from Albert WMZ.
“The trip is an eye-opener to us, we need to plant trees and guard this beautiful country with jealousy,” Jino said. He appealed to members to be patriotic in championing efforts to promote interventions which contribute positively to the climate.
Dr. Guma Brian, the manager for Albert Water Management Zone, appreciated Lokere CMC for choosing to benchmark in his jurisdiction. He challenged the Lokere team to continue cherishing team work to be able to mobilise more resources for the betterment of the catchment.
“If you manage to map more development partners to support sustainable implementations of interventions to conserve the environment, the better Lokere will be,” Dr. Guma said.
