Luweero, (UG):- At least four people died on the spot and six others left nursing serious injuries after a reversing truck crashed into a taxi at Nakazzi village along the Kampala-Gulu Highway in the wee hours of Monday morning.
The 5 am road crash occurred at Nakazzi Village in Luweero Town Council along the highway when the yet-to-be-identified truck coming from the Kampala side slightly struck the Toyota Hiance (taxi) coming from Gulu on the driver’s side.
According to Savannah region police spokesperson Mr Sam Twiineamazima, the driver of the taxi identified as Moses Kitata, 43, a resident of Wobulenzi Town Council was among the four fatalities recorded in the crash, who together with the injured victims were rushed to Luwero Hospital for postmortem and treatment respectively.

“Upon police receiving the information of the accident, they responded immediately, and a case of fatal accident was registered. The scene was visited and documented by crime scene officers while statements were recorded from relevant witnesses,” Twiineamazima said in a press briefing with journalists.
“We are actively searching for the truck driver responsible for this tragic accident.”
The ill-fated taxi was by press time towed away to Luwero Central Police Station for further management although police did not immediately disclose the exact cause of the accident.
The Luwero road crash comes just a day after a recent accident 8 dead, and 20 injured in a Jaguar bus accident on Kampala-Masaka highway when it collided with a lorry in a motor crash along the Kampala-Masaka highway in the wee hours of Sunday morning.
Last week, in another fatal accident, 10 people died after a PokoPoko bus collided with a Toyota Hiace commuter taxi, registration number UBR 812G, at Kaihura Trading Centre on Fort Portal-Kyenjojo Road.
On August 19, six people died and 37 were injured in a crash involving a Gateway Company bus, registration number UBQ 621Z, which collided head-on with a Fuso truck, registration number UBM 673K, at Kirumba Village in Lwengo District on the Masaka-Mbarara highway.
According to police, 76 people died in road accidents on major highways across the country in the week of August 11-17. Additionally, 375 others sustained injuries.
