One dead after Bus rams into RISO’s vehicle in Lira

Lira, (UG):- One person died after sustaining injuries in a road crash that involved two vehicles on the Lira-Kamdini highway in Lira City on Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased identified as Alex Uzia, 49, a driver attached to the Regional Intelligence Security Officer (RISO) in the Lango Sub-region was involved in an accident at around 3:45 PM on the 04th of Sept 2024 around Jinja Camp, Lira City West Division.

According to preliminary police findings, it is alleged that Uzia parked the vehicle Reg No UG 4260C at Jinja Camp along Juba road and came out then stood beside his vehicle however a bus Reg No UAH 848F which was leaving Lira-City towards Kamdini on reaching where Uzia was standing, squeezed him on his vehicle causing serious injuries on him.

However upon rushing to a Midtown clinic and was pronounced dead.

SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga Police Public relations officer said the Bus driver, Twaha Wanade was arrested and detained at Lira CPS while investigation into the circumstances of this collision is ongoing.

“Police were informed, scene visited by the OC traffic Lira-City and other officers, Victim rushed to MidTown clinic but pronounced dead on admission, deceased body conveyed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital’s mortuary pending postmortem,” SP Okema said, attributing the cause of the accident to careless driving by the bus driver.

By the time of writing this, the driver’s Motor vehicle was taken to Lira CPS and the bus was parked at the station pending IOV inspection.
