Luuka, (UG):– The Territorial Police in Luuka District are investigating a hit and run motor accident which claimed three lives at Naimuli village, Nawampiti Sub County in Luuka district on Wednesday.
The accident in which three passengers died instantly, involved an unknown motor vehicle and a motorcycle registration number UFA 498C Bajaj boxer at around 3pm on the afternoon.
The Busoga North police spokesperson ASP Micheal Kasadha identified the deceased as Ngobi Jackson 46, Mugabi Joram 18 and Mwase Brian 23.
The Rider of the motorcycle, not identified by press time, survived with wounds and was taken to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital in Jinja city for medical attention.
ASP Kasadha attributed the crash to the bend sighted at the scene of the tragic incident which must have accelerated the impact of the carnage.
“Preliminary investigations suggest that today 04.09.24 at about 03:00pm, an unknown vehicle collided head on with a Motorcycle Reg No. UFA 498C, killing three passengers instantly. At the spot where the accident occurred, there was a bend which is suspected to have accelerated the tragic impact,” Kasadha said in a Wednesday statement.
In a separate interview with DailyExpress, Kasadha revealed that the two passengers; Ngobi and Mugabi were seated on the motorcycle while Mwase fell off from the motor vehicle, which is yet-to-be identified.
The scene was visited by a team of traffic officers and the bodies were taken to Kiyunga health center 1V mortuary for post mortem by press time while the motorcycle was parked at the police station pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV).
Police have assured the bereaved families and the community that a serious hunt was underway to apprehend the driver and impound the vehicle which was involved in the nasty crash.
“A serious man hunt for the unknown vehicle has begun to have it impounded and the driver apprehended to aid in further investigations,” Kasadha remarked.
