Parliament to hold prayers today for deceased minister Sarah Mateke

Kampala, (UG):- The Speaker of Uganda’s Parliament, Rt Hon Anitah Among will today afternoon preside over the special sitting as lawmakers gather to pay tribute to the late Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi who was Kisoro Woman Member of Parliament and Minister of State for Defence and Veteran Affairs.

Mateke, 50, died Saturday morning on arrival at Mengo Hospital in Kampala following a heart attack at her home in Nsangi, Wakiso.

According to the updated funeral programme released via Parliament of Uganda’s official X handle on Monday morning, the body of the late Hon Minister will today, Monday, September 9, be at Parliament where prayers will be held in memory of Mateke.

The body will afterwards be taken to Mateke’s home in Nsangi, Wakiso District, for a night vigil.

On Tuesday, September 09, there will be a second funeral service at All Saints Cathedral, Nakasero, starting at 8 am, and the body will afterwards be taken to Parliament for an afternoon special sitting session in honour of Mateke. After the session, the body will be returned to A Plus funeral home

On Wednesday, September 11, the body will be transported to Nyakabingo in Kisoro District, where a council session, church service, and overnight vigil will take place.

The late minister will be laid to rest on Thursday, September 12 at her ancestral home in Nyakabingo.
