One dead as vehicle burns beyond recognition in Budaka

Budaka, (UG):- One person died on the spot in a tragic accident after a car he was driving lost control and swerved off the road before bursting into flames on the Mbale-Tirinyi Highway in the wee hours of Monday morning.

The incident occurred around 02:20 am at Lupada village, Budaka District when a Toyota Nadia with registration number UAJ 766B swerved off the road, striking a road signpost and a culvert pavement before catching fire.

The victim, identified as 27-year-old Buyinza Emmanuel, also known as Ibra, was a driver based in the Sino Industrial Area of Mbale and originally hailed from Buddo in Kampala district. He died instantly at the scene.

Eyewitnesses say local police from Budaka responded promptly to the scene, where they found the vehicle in flames and burnt beyond recognition while emergency services worked quickly to retrieve the body, which was conveyed to Budaka Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination.

The wreckage of the vehicle was also towed to the Budaka police parking yard, where it is set to undergo an inspection as part of the ongoing investigation into the accident.

SP Semewo Samuel, the Acting Public Relations Officer for the Bukedi North region, confirmed that inquiries are underway to determine the cause of the accident. He appealed to anyone with information related to the incident to come forward.
