Russia’s Putin sends special message to Museveni on 80th birthday

Kampala, (UG);- Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent a congratulatory message to his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni on the occasion of his 80th birthday with “wishes of good health, well-being and success in all state endeavours”, the Russian Embassy in Uganda posted on Sunday.

In the social media post via X (formerly Twitter), the embassy attached a letter including the whole of Putin’s message dedicated to Museveni hailing the latter’s proven leadership which has led to a huge socio-economic transformation and consolidated its position on the world stage.

“Dear Mister President! Please accept my sincere congratulations on the occasion of Your 80th birthday. You rightfully enjoy a well-deserved high authority on the African continent. Under Your leadership Uganda has scored success in socio and economic spheres and strengthened its positions in the international arena,” the letter, automatically translated from Russian, reads in part.

“In Russia, we highly value Your consistent contribution to enhancing the relations of friendship and cooperation between our two countries. I wish you good health, well-being and success in all your state endeavours.”

Museveni celebrated his 80th birthday in a huge ceremony in Kijaguzo, Nakaseke district, attended by hundreds of his supporters.

A special Mass was conducted as part of the celebrations, with President Museveni making an appearance in the company of the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni.

The President in his remarks at the fete said that people’s livelihoods have significantly been boosted during his nearly 40 years in power.

“Now, when I move around, I see improvement in our houses, but when we came here during the war, you used to sleep under grass-thatched houses, but now you sleep under modern houses built with bricks, iron sheets and cement, thank you for that development,” he said.
