RDCs, ONC Coordinators impressed by progress of PDM implementation in Greater Masaka

Sembabule, (UG);- The Resident District Commissioners and coordinators from the Office of the National Chairman (ONC) have lauded area leaders for their effective implementation of the Parish Development Model programme and disbursement of funds to the intended beneficiaries in the Greater Masaka Region.

The ONC Coordinators led by Ms Nakeeya Hellen the Regional Coordinator yesterday (Wednesday) joined Sembabule RDCs in Lwemiyaga Constituency to monitor the progress and impact of various poverty-eradication programs such as PDM and Emyooga in Lwemiyaga and Kyeera Sub counties.

During a debrief meeting at the RDC’s office, the RDC Ms Kagaayi Jane Frances emphasized to the ONC team the need to consolidate the NRM achievements and encouraged them to encourage the public to embrace all Government programs.

The PDM Focal Person in Sembabule Mr Benon Kusasira told the ONC team how Lwemiyaga Subcounty with 3 parishes had already received 471m of which 321m had already been disbursed to beneficiaries. For Kyeera Subcounty with 3 parishes, it had already received 621m and 471m had been disbursed for the 3 phases.

On his part, the District Commercial Officer Mr Simon Dungu reported how Lwemiyaga Constituency with 18 Emyooga Groups has already received 570m. He however reported to the ONC team how residents have a poor saving culture as they can’t bid for huge sums of funds.

The Sembabule District Coordinator Kagina Jonathan Odong encouraged residents to embrace all Government Programs intended to boost their economic and social status. He also asked residents not to politicize these programs.

He strongly warned Officials running the PDM Program from extorting/taking Money/bribes from beneficiaries and asked residents to always report such intolerant behaviours to the Police for rectification and smooth running of these programs.

The Regional Coordinator for Emyooga program-Mr Mutesasira Gonzaga encouraged residents doing the same economic activity to form Associations in accordance with the 18 set categories to benefit from the Emyooga program.

He also emphasized beneficiaries of Emyooga revolving funds to pay back for the rest of the members to utilise them. He reassured Government’s commitment to continue funding the Emyooga program as long as beneficiaries/users utilise them as per guidelines and refund timely.

The ONC Regional Coordinator Ms Nakeeya Hellen asked the RDC to action against the officials accused of taking bribes from PDM beneficiaries and asked beneficiaries to invest funds in the registered enterprises.

She also called for improvement in saving the culture of residents especially those who took Emyooga funds so that the Government to increase re-/capitation.

“You should select the real intended beneficiaries that fall into the 39% poor category not the well-off”-She told the PDM select committee

Deputy RDC Mr Seruwagi Faizo commended the ONC and RDC office’s joint efforts in monitoring government programs intended to implement NRM manifesto to realise Uganda’s Socio-economic transformation agenda

He also educated the attendees about the GROW program and asked residents categorically women in business to embrace it to widen the capital base for their businesses and huge incomes in return.

The residents who lauded President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for these programs asked him to increase PDM funds to cater for bigger numbers per Parish. They also asked President Museveni never to think of retiring leadership of this Nation as they vowed to support him in 2026 for continued development.
