Tentative burial programme out for fallen NUP Deputy Jolly Mugisha

Kampala, (UG):- The Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) party has released a tentative program for the funeral and final send-off of its fallen deputy president for the western region, Jolly Kyomugasho Mugisha.

Mugisha, 61, who was also the vice-chairperson of the National Consultative Forum (NCF) died on Monday, September 23, at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital where she had been admitted in a coma for several weeks.

According to the tentative burial programme released by NUP Secretary General Mr David Lewis Rubongoya, the funeral for the late Hon Mugisha starts Tuesday, September 24, with a vigil at her home in Kakyeka, in Mbarara, western Uganda.

On Wednesday, September 25, there will be a funeral service at 2:00 pm to pay tribute to the late Mugisha at All Saints Church, and a vigil later at her home in Kakyeka.

Thursday, September 26, will be marred with a series of NUP party activities starting at 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. Details of the exact party activities and venue were still yet to be communicated by press time. Later in the afternoon, (3:00 pm), Mugisha’s body will be transported to her ancestral home Kyemporogoma in Mitooma District for an evening vigil.

On Friday, September 27, a funeral service will be held at Kyemporogoma starting at 10:00 am and later burial and final send-off at 3:00 pm.

Mugisha, according to party leaders, had been an influential figure within the NUP and in Uganda’s political landscape, particularly in Western Uganda, where she tirelessly championed the party’s vision for justice, freedom, and equality.

Known for her steadfast commitment to the rights and welfare of Ugandans, she was widely respected by her peers and supporters for her courage and leadership.

Leader of the Opposition in Parliament (LOP) Joel Ssenyonyi, who is also Nakawa West NUP MP, took to X, formerly Twitter and said Mugisha was not just a leader, but a mother to them. “We shall miss her passion and zeal,” he said.

Ssenyonyi’s predecessor, also Nyendo-Mukungwe MP, Hon Mathias Mpuuga also took to X and said the news of Mugisha’s death was both shocking and saddening.

“As we mourn her demise, we also give thanks to the Almighty God for sharing her life and numerous talents with us. I had the privilege of working closely with her during the formative days of NUP and I admired her unwavering zeal to work tirelessly, even in the most challenging situations,” he said.
