Mbale High School PTA takes office, outlines plans for improvement

Mbale, (UG):- The Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) of Mbale High School has assumed office following their elections in June this year. The Headmaster, Mr. Stephen Wambalo, organized the swearing-in ceremony and assumption of duty.

The PTA works closely with government officials, the school administration, and the board of governors to ensure the needs of learners and teachers are met. By law, the PTA represents the voice of parents in the school administration.

Notable alumni of Mbale High School include the current speaker of the Ugandan parliament, Hon. Annet Among, Martin Kiboya, the deputy manager of Butebo Channel under the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation, and Mr. Steven Masiga, the current spokesperson for Inzuymasaba and a lecturer at Makerere University.

The PTA executive committee includes the Headmaster as the secretary, Mr Steven Masiga, Mr Okello, Mr Badiru, and the chairman, Mr Namisi.

The PTA aims to procure computers to assist learners in practical subjects like computer science. Mr Masiga vowed to mobilize learners around Masabalaland to pursue secondary education after witnessing the improved performance of the candidate classes at O-level and UACE.

The Headmaster, Mr Wambalo Stephen, outlined the school’s achievements during his tenure, including drilling boreholes, establishing a standard sick bay, constructing two-story buildings, paving the school grounds, and procuring school buses.

The school has well-trained teachers who are fully paid for by the Government of Uganda. The new PTA team is determined to purchase computers to facilitate the teaching of practical subjects.

The Headmaster also reported that enrollment has increased from 650 learners in 2019 to nearly 6000 learners now. He attributed this growth to the construction of new blocks through a World Bank initiative (APLI) and joint efforts by the PTA and Board of Governors. To enhance security, the school PTA and board also constructed a magnificent fence to protect learners from external threats.

Mr. Masiga promised to leverage his media connections and mobilize parents and alumni to support Mbale High School, his alma mater.
