Mob lynching sparks outrage in Kibuku community

Kibuku, (UG):- In a tragic incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, a 24-year-old man was lynched by a mob in Kibuku District on allegations of cattle theft. The victim, identified as Mulabi Mubakali, a resident of Soweto village, was discovered early this morning driving a cow and a goat on his motorcycle.

According to police reports, Mubakali was found at approximately 4:00 AM in Bukalijoko village, Kasecha parish, transporting the livestock when he was confronted by an unidentified mob.

Eyewitnesses claim that the mob acted on suspicions of theft, leading to a violent confrontation where Mubakali was brutally attacked and left for dead alongside the road.

“The scene was particularly harrowing, with the victim’s body abandoned in a pool of blood, and the livestock tied to his legs. His motorcycle, a red Baja Boxer with registration number UFJ 583J, was found severely damaged and burned,” said SP Semewo Samuel the acting Bukedi North Region Police Spokesperson 

Local authorities were alerted to the incident by Maizimayo Wilberforce, the chairman of the local council, who filed a murder report. Police have since registered the case as murder by mob, under reference CRB 586/2025.

According to the police, “Detectives and Scene of Crime officers have conducted a thorough investigation at the crime scene, collecting evidence and taking statements from witnesses. The recovered livestock and motorcycle have been secured, while the deceased’s body has been transported to Kibuku Health Center IV for a postmortem examination.”

As investigations continue, the police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
