Muganga pens heartfelt tribute to fallen Victoria University Council Chair Joram Kahenano

Kampala, (UG):- Victoria University Vice Chancellor, Dr Lawrence Muganga has paid tribute to fallen University Council Chairman, Mr. Joram Kahenano expressing deep sorrow over the loss of such a visionary leader and a pillar of strength within the institution.

Kahenano, a fellow of the Uganda Institute of Bankers and a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, was pronounced dead on Saturday, October 06, 2024, passing on at the age of 76 according to a statement issued by the University don via Social media platform X.

In his heartfelt tribute, Dr. Muganga hailed Mr. Kahenano’s profound contributions to the university’s growth and his unwavering dedication to its mission.

“On behalf of the Council and Management of Victoria University, it is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our esteemed Chairperson of the Governance Council, Canon Joram F. Kahenano, who left us on October 5th, 2024, and will be laid to rest on Tuesday, October 8th, 2024,” Muganga posted at 4:12 pm on Saturday.

“Canon Joram Kahenano…was the guiding light of our institution. His selflessness knew no bounds, and his counsel and guidance were the bedrock upon which Victoria University built its recent successes. With unmatched expertise and unwavering dedication, he steered us through challenges and toward tremendous growth; a legacy we shall always owe to him,” the Vice-Chancellor added.

Muganga said Kahenano’s passing “has robbed us of a great leader, a father, a mentor, and an expert whose presence was a source of inspiration for us all.”

“The university community grieves the loss of a man who diligently served his country and our institution with unparalleled commitment and grace. His passion for education and his belief in our mission enriched the lives of countless individuals,” the tribute further reads.

“As we mourn, we find solace in the faith that the living Lord he so diligently served has welcomed him into heaven, keeping him among His holy ones. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family. May God grant them the strength and comfort to navigate through these difficult times.”

Muganga maintains that Canon Joram Kahenano’s legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched and in the continued success of Victoria University.

“We shall always remember him with deep respect, profound gratitude, and enduring love. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”

Late Joram F Kahenano

Born August 16, 1948, Joram Kahenano was a prominent figure in Uganda’s financial sector and held a Non-Executive Director role at I&M Bank Uganda. With an extensive background in banking and finance, he played an instrumental role in shaping financial operations and governance within the institutions he was part ofโ€‹.

At I&M Bank Uganda, his contributions have been well-recognized, and his leadership has been seen as pivotal to the bankโ€™s operations and strategic directionโ€‹

During his career, Kahenano held various key positions in the banking sector and was known for his leadership qualities and in-depth understanding of the financial industry.

His influence extended beyond banking into education, where his role as the Chairman of Victoria Universityโ€™s Council demonstrated his commitment to fostering education and professional development in Uganda.

Kahenanoโ€™s leadership, guidance, and passion for education helped steer the Private University toward its goals, and his impact on the community will be felt for generations to come.

Official Burial Programme

According to the official burial programme released by the University in conjunction with the bereaved family, Kahenano’s funeral will start tonight, Sunday, October 06, with an official vigil at the late’s residence in Mbuya, Nakawa Division.

On Monday, October 07, there will be a funeral service at All Saints Cathedral in Kampala starting at 9:00 am where the university community, friends and relatives will pay tribute to the late and his contributions to the country.

Canon Kahenano will be buried on Tuesday, October 08, with a funeral service at 11 am in Mbarara at Kyamugorani Church of Uganda along the Bypass.
