Victoria University mourns passing of Council Chairman Joram Kahenano

Kampala, (UG):- Victoria University is mourning the loss of its esteemed Governing Council Chairman, Mr. Joram Kahenano, who passed away at the age of 76.

Kahenano was pronounced dead on Saturday, October 05, 2024, in a statement issued by the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Lawrence Muganga who expressed deep sorrow over the loss of a visionary leader and a pillar of strength within the institution.

In a heartfelt message posted via the University’s official X account, Dr. Muganga hailed Mr. Kahenano’s profound contributions to the university’s growth and his unwavering dedication to its mission.
“Mr. Kahenano’s warmth and wisdom have left an indelible mark on each of us,” the Vice Chancellor said, highlighting the late Chairman’s significant role in shaping the institution’s future.

Born August 16, 1948, Kahenano was a prominent figure in Uganda’s financial sector and held a Non-Executive Director role at I&M Bank Uganda. With an extensive background in banking and finance, he played an instrumental role in shaping financial operations and governance within the institutions he was part of​.

At I&M Bank Uganda, his contributions have been well-recognized, and his leadership has been seen as pivotal to the bank’s operations and strategic direction​

During his career, Kahenano held various key positions in the banking sector and was known for his leadership qualities and in-depth understanding of the financial industry.

His influence extended beyond banking into education, where his role as the Chairman of Victoria University’s Council demonstrated his commitment to fostering education and professional development in Uganda.

Kahenano’s leadership, guidance, and passion for education helped steer the Private University toward its goals, and his impact on the community will be felt for generations to come.

The official burial programme released starts with an official vigil on Sunday, October 06, at 5 pm in Mbuya, the late’s urban residence.

On Monday, October 07, there will be a funeral service at All Saints Cathedral in Kampala starting at 9:00 am where the university community, friends and relatives will pay tribute to the late and his contributions to the country.

Kahenano will be buried on Tuesday, October 08, with a funeral service at 11 am in Mbarara at Kyamugorani Church of Uganda along the Bypass.

VC Muganga has urged the varsity community to come together during this difficult time to honour his memory and support one another.
