Budaka, (UG):– A tragic incident unfolded on the night of Saturday, October 5, 2024, when an unidentified man was lynched by an angry mob in Kanjo village, Iki-iki subcounty, Budaka district.
The victim, allegedly suspected of being a motorcycle thief, was chased from the nearby Pallisa district before meeting a fatal end.
According to local reports, the mob attack occurred around 9 PM, when a group of boda boda riders spotted the man and pursued him for several kilometres.
Eyewitnesses describe a chaotic scene as the riders cornered the victim in Kanjo village, where he was brutally attacked.
The deceased, whose identity was still unknown by press time, was reportedly chased from the Pallisa district, leaving no immediate family or friends to claim him. After the attack, his body was left unattended at the scene.
Local law enforcement was alerted to the situation and quickly arrived at the crime scene. Police officials recovered a suspected stolen motorcycle, bearing registration number UGF 201W, which was found at the location of the lynching. The motorcycle has since been towed to the Iki-iki police station for further inspection.
In a statement, the Acting Public Relations Officer for Bukedi North, SP Semewo Samuel, confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
“We are making efforts to identify the deceased and locate his relatives,” Semewo stated. “This incident underscores the need for community members to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.”
The police have urged the public to report any suspicious activities rather than resorting to mob justice, emphasizing that such actions can lead to tragic outcomes and undermine the rule of law.
