SDA Church Bishop independence message

By Mukonyezi Stephen Akiiki

As Uganda celebrates this year’s independence, there are very many things worth rejoicing for, but most important are the achievements Uganda has reached in these 62 years of self-rule. A lot of history reminds us where we have come from, and it also helps us create shape for a better tomorrow. It has therefore been as a result of this that many people including the president of the Seventh Day Adventist Church- Mid Western Uganda Field, Pr. Rusoke Richard Amooti has given his message in commemoration of this historical day for the country.

“Dear fellow countrymen, women, youth, children, civil and religious leaders, the business fraternity, farmers, entrepreneurs, schoolgoers, employers, employees, religious faiths, men and women in security agencies, ladies and gentlemen.

On behalf of the Mid-Western Uganda Field of the Seventh Day Adventist Church administration and my own behalf, allow me to congratulate the president of the Republic of Uganda and his three arms of government and all Ugandans for reaching this 63rd independence celebration since colonialism ended in our motherland.

I also want to congratulate the leadership of the Adventist church in Uganda under the leadership of Dr Pr. Maka Moses and all the entities, institutional clergy and laity for running away from spiritual colonialism by sin. While Uganda has been celebrating independence since 1962, I want to remind all bible believers that since 1AD, we started being dependent on Jesus Christ and the holy spirit after being freed from sin.

As we look at independence, let us focus on the family model to achieve holistic sustainability. Long live Uganda and Long live the Adventist Church. Let us prioritise family, health, mission, infrastructure, education and environmental protection.”

In his words, the bishop says that the church is supportive of government programs as long as they are meant to improve people’s standards of living for the glory of God’s name. He also says that the love of God should be shown in how much people work towards uplifting each other as they go through this life and in preparation for eternity. The changed images of their homes and church can impact the citizens given they cling to Christ for providence and also listen to the leaders chosen by God.

Pr. Rusoke who has been at the helm of church leadership in the Mid-Western Uganda Field of the SDA Church has seen the church take giant strides in development. He is at the forefront of a drive to change the image of the church such that the infrastructural, institutional and spiritual developments of the church and the members can become a sermon to the world. Church membership has greatly increased, spirituality boosted and infrastructural developments made, most especially the mega office complex which is still ongoing.

Long live all Ugandans, happy 63rd Independence Day
