Police halt activities related Lango Paramount Chief until court ruling

Lira, (UG):- The Territorial Police at North Kyoga Regional Police has directed all parties involved in the struggle for Won Nyaci leadership to halt all their activities with immediate effect until the main suit at the Lira High Court is determined next week.

SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the regional police spokesperson released the directive in a press statement to the media Thursday night. “We have instructed and put on notice all our territorial police in the region to monitor and act accordingly to ensure compliance” part of the statement issued reads.

All activities related to Won Nyaci me Lango will have to wait until the court pronounces itself,” the statement continued.

The statement came some hours ahead of the planned election of Lango Cultural Foundation which will elect Won Nyaci to succeed the sitting Won Nyaci, Yusam Odur Ebii, who is set to retire this year.

Four Clan Chiefs, known in Lango Culture as Owitong have been nominated for that election. They include Benjamin Okii the clan chief of Okibura clan, Dr. Richard Nam the clan chief of Okiamat clan, Dan Okello the clan chief of Guna clan and Amb. Dickson Ogwang Okul, the clan chief of Pala-ocol clan.

On the side of Tekwaro Lango; preparations are underway to swear in Won Nyaci-elect Eng. Moses Micheal Odongo Okune slated 2nd November 2024.

The police directive would mean no business from the two camps will take place until the court rules out the case in which the Lango Cultural Foundation is challenging the election of Eng Moses Odongo Okune as paramount chief of Lango.
