Kurima Mark, a resident of Magale Town Council in Namisindwa District finds himself in jail after sending threats to kill his 84-year-old mother, Mukite Clementina from the same village.
Mr Vinket Manana, Communications Officer at Redeem International, a non-governmental organization providing free legal aid services to orphans and widows in the Bugisu region, says they intervened in the matter to have Kurima detained after receiving the widow’s complaints.
Abili Makutusi, the LC1 Chairman for Kurima Cell, confirmed multiple complaints from the widow regarding her son’s threats, which had also attracted the attention of the Equal Opportunities Commission, resulting in restrictions on Kurima’s access to the family premises.
DailyExpress has since learnt from authorities that Kurima was arraigned before Bubulo Magistrates Court on Tuesday and remanded to Bubulo Prisons until further mention of the case.
Mr Manana also told this publication that Redeem International is also handling several other cases within the same family, where children have sued their mother over succession, both in criminal and civil matters at Bubulo and Mbale magistrates’ courts.
Julie Salome Namaara, the Namisindwa Resident District Commissioner, urged families to respect each other, highlighting that inheritance laws are clear. She called for calm as the case is now in court.
