Kampala, (UG):- The postmortem carried out on former Namirembe Diocese Bishop Emeritus Samuel Balagadde Ssekadde has revealed that the former Anglican Bishop who died on Monday succumbed to a heart attack.
The development was confirmed by Rev. Prof. Dr Samuel Luboga, the chairperson of the Education Service Commission (ESC) in his speech today, Thursday, October 17, at St Paul’s Namirembe Cathedral where hundreds of mourners attended a funeral service to pay their last respects to the late Bishop.
The confirmation came as a relief to mourners who had been left divided on what exactly killed the Man of God who died aged 80.
The cleric had earlier on Monday appeared physically fine in Rushere-Nyabushozi where he attended the burial of the late Mrs Norah Karakire. According to one of the mourners, Ssekadde (on Monday) expressed a desire to speak before heading back to Entebbe.
But his shocking passing that very night left a lot of unanswered questions, which according to Prof Luboga was a breeding point for the baseless social media allegations.
“People have been wanting to know the cause of death [of Samuel]. What l have seen on social media [on the cause of death] has been disappointing. Fake news!” said Professor Luboga, adding; “This man’s death was caused by a heart attack. His heart did not die out of negligence but because God said it is time.”
The late Bishop who reigned over Namirembe Diocese from 1994 to 2009 is set to be buried this afternoon at Namirembe Cathedral’s cemetery in Rubaga Division, Kampala.
Several top government officials, Members of the Opposition, clergy, family members, friends and other well-wishers have graced the funeral service to pay last respects to the deceased.
Bishop Samuel Balagadde Ssekadde leaves behind a wife, Allen, biological and adopted children as well as several grandchildren.
