Two dead, 8 injured as speeding taxi rams in Rubaga building

Kampala, (UG):- At least two people died on the spot while eight others sustained critical injuries after a speeding passenger taxi lost control and rammed into a building in Rubaga early this morning.

The fatal road crash according to Traffic Police Spokesperson, SP Michael Kananura, occurred at 6:30 am, on Thursday 17th October 2024 at Lubaga Road opposite Luqman Petrol Station.

Kananura explained that preliminary findings indicate that the crash occurred when a speeding vehicle No. UAU 194T Toyota Hiace, travelling from Sanyu Babies Home on Butikiro Road, failed to brake while descending a slope.

“The vehicle lost control and rammed into a building alongside Lubaga Road, opposite Luqman Petrol Station, killing instantly 2 people, including the driver, and injuring 8 others all occupants in the same vehicle,” SP Kananura said in a social media update via X (formerly Twitter).

He added that the victims were rushed to Mengo Hospital & Mulago Referral Hospital for medical attention while the bodies of the deceased were conveyed to the city mortuary pending post-mortem examination.

Meanwhile, the vehicle involved in the crash was also towed to Old Kampala Police Station for inspection as inquiries commence.

“We urge all motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits, particularly in urban areas, and ensure their vehicles are well-maintained to prevent such tragedies,” Kananura stated.
