World Teachers Day 2024: Museveni urges patience with arts teachers’ salary increment

Kampala, (UG):- President Museveni has urged the Arts teachers to be patient on the pay rise as the government is committed to improving the welfare of all public servants.

“Our target is to pay all the public servants well and also increase the numbers,” Mr Museveni said while addressing teachers at Lugogo Cricket Oval in Kampala on Saturday, October 19, 2024, where the commemorations of this year’s World Teacher’s Day were held.

The President promised to examine the issue of holidays with the teachers.

The First Lady who is also the Minister of Education, Hon Janet K Museveni warned some teachers are absent in class but still pick salaries.

Mrs Museveni further wondered why well-paid teachers in government schools continue to be absent from duty compared to their counterparts in private schools who are relatively paid less.

At the event, several schools have presented their science innovations today at the Cricket Oval in Kampala, as part of the belated International Teachers’ Day celebrations.

12 Teachers were at the function awarded certificates for exceptional innovation in their profession. Under “Teachers Making Difference Program”.

This year’s celebrations which attracted hundreds of teachers from various institutions and other government officials ran under the theme: “Valuing Teacher Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education”.
