Two arrested over gruesome murder of Kaliro businesswoman

Kaliro, (UG):- Police in eastern Uganda’s Kaliro District are holding a 50-year-old man, his wife and sister-in-law in connection with the alleged robbery and murder of a businesswoman identified as Tusingwire Betty in Kaliro early this month.

The suspects have been identified as Nfambi Robert a resident of Nampirika, Kadondi Suzan alias Byogero, a resident of Bugabwe and Nakanda Damalie, a resident of Kasokoso Central.

On the fateful day, the 2nd of October 2024 at around 09:00pm, upon reaching home with her husband, Tusingwire was murdered by unknown assailants, who fled the scene after robbing the couple of cash amounting to Ugx 3m.

In coordination with the Flying Squad, Police arrested the suspects were arrested from Iganga and transferred them to CPS Kaliro where they are currently detained.

Preliminary findings indicate that the rifle that they have been using to execute their missions was bought from Kenya by his brother identified as Kapere alias brown of Bulubandi and a friend identified as Saidi.

More findings indicate that Nfambi had been the driver on every mission, his wife Kadondi had been keeping the rifle but revealed that it had been transferred to her sister’s place upon their arrest.  

Upon search at the sister’s place, a rifle no. 564812008 AK 47 with 16 rounds of ammunition was recovered and, eventually, she was arrested.

In an interview, Nambi further revealed that their group has robbed in areas of Iganga Municipality, Namungalwe town council and the recent robbery and murder in kaliro Town council.

Police Spokesperson for Busoga North, Mr Kasadha Michael confirmed the report and said a serious manhunt for more suspects who are at large is still on.

“We appeal to the members of the public to be more vigilant and suspicious of the unusual conduct of fellow members owing to the fact that a number of criminal activities are planned within neighbourhoods,” Afandhe Kasadha said.
