Uganda’s Electoral Commission to recruit over 13,000 ahead of 2026 polls

Kampala, (UG):- The Uganda Electoral Commission (EC) has announced it is set to recruit a total of 13,017 at various levels as the country gears up for the forthcoming 2026 general elections.

According to the EC advert made public this week, among the available jobs is a whooping total of 2,300 sub-county election officers and 10,717 parish election officers. The commission says potential applicants for the positions above should submit their applications to EC no later than Monday, November 4, 2024.

“All qualified persons are encouraged to apply with attachments of photocopies of certificates and Handwritten/typed applications, testimonials and submit them to the District Election Administrators of the area of interest, ” reads in part the advert.

Applicants ought to indicate the position applied for and the area/ District of work, noting that the applicants must also possess a National ID/ NIN, a comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV) with two referees, and daytime telephone contact.

The advert also noted that a short list of candidates to appear for interviews will be pinned at the office of the District Election Administrator in each district.

“The date for conducting interviews will be communicated to you through the office of the District Election Administrator and announcements on local radio stations. Successful candidates will be informed through the same office and will be issued with appointment letters,” EC said.

What are the Qualifications

EC said applicants for the sub-county election officer must possess a minimum of a Uganda advanced certificate (UACE) or its equivalent. They should have been resident in the Sub-County for at least three (3) years and should be registered voters.

On the other hand, parish election officers should have a Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) as a minimum qualification.

Successful applicants (both sub-county election officers and parish election officers) will be hired on a three-month contract, with a possibility of renewal, according to EC, and will be paid through e-cash.

“Therefore, they must possess a phone number registered on Mobile Money in their names.”

The 2026 Election Roadmap (Revised)

The 2026 road map released in August last year indicates that the general update of voters’ registers in each parish will run from January 3 to 24, 2025 while the nomination of candidates at both national and local government levels will run from July 14, 2025, to December 12, 2025.

The nomination of candidates for president will run between October 2 and October 3, 2025, in line with the Presidential Elections Act.

According to the roadmap, polling for presidential, parliamentary, and local government councils will be held between 12th January and February 9, 2026.

Compilation of youth, persons with disabilities, older person workers, Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF), and professional bodies voters’ register is expected to be held between the 3rd and 24th of January 2025.
