Jinja, (UG):- The Minister for Lands, Housing and Urban Development Hon. Judith Nalule Nabakooba together with Health Minister Hon Jane Ruth Aceng have set tomorrow Monday, October 28, 2024, to meet key stakeholders in the matter of the 4.5 acre Jinja disputed land involving the regional referral hospital and the Muslim community.
This follows a recent letter from the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) Chairperson, Dr Muhamadi Lubega who petitioned the minister to intervene in the matter after the public outcry on how the Muslim community was dehumanized especially as they sought to bury their loved ones, but couldn’t access the cemetery as the entrance was closed.

Now, the Minister [Nabakooba] responding to the outcry confirmed on Sunday that she will meet stakeholders tomorrow [Monda], purposely to resolve the grant access to the Muslim cemetery on plots 31-39 along Baxi road in Jinja city.
“Following the recent incident concerning the above-described property which indicates that the grant of access to the Muslim cemetery has not been resolved, this is to invite you for a meeting on Monday, the 28th day of October 2024 at 10:00 am to resolve the matter at the locus,” the letter dated October 24, 2024, seen by Daily Express reads partly.
“I will be visiting the locus to get a lasting solution to the issue together with the Hon. Minister of Health,” adds the letter which the minister copied to the RCC Jinja city, the Chairperson Uganda Land Commission, the Chairperson Jinja Hospital Management Board, Jinja Hospital Administrator, the RPC Kiira Regional Police, UMSC Jinja branch, RISO Jinja city, the Mayor and City clerk Jinja city, among other officials.
In a related development, the 2nd Deputy Premier [Katuukiro] of the Busoga Kingdom, Haji Osman Ahmed Noor expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) and the Ministries of Lands and Health in addressing the ongoing Jinja Muslim Cemetery land dispute.
Haji Osman commended the stakeholders for their proactive engagement in resolving the matter and called on the Muslim community in Jinja to remain calm and united. He reassured residents that the upcoming meeting is expected to provide a clear resolution to the land issues, preserving the cemetery’s sanctity and respect within the community.
“This intervention brings hope to all those affected by this dispute. I urge everyone to stay patient as we await the outcomes of the Monday meeting, which we believe will bring peace and clarity,” Haji Osman stated.
Haji Osman assured the community of his commitment to follow developments closely and advocate for the interests of the Muslim community regarding the cemetery. His involvement reflects a commitment to ensuring that community concerns are addressed respectfully and effectively.
