Iganga, (UG):- The Bishop of Central Busoga Diocese Rt. Rev. Patrick Wakula has asked all parents to plan early for their children in candidate classes by saving for them, the school fees that will enable them to pursue studies at their next levels of education.
Bishop Wakula says it is very painful and an insult whenever a child struggles and performs well in final examinations but the parents fail to raise funds for the next level. He said it is the right time for parents to start saving for their children.
The Bishop was on Saturday commissioning 171 Primary Seven candidates of Dawn Prime Academy Day and Boarding Nursery and Primary School at Iwawu village, Bulamagi Sub County in Iganga district where he first confirmed 62 pupils into the Christian faith.
“Even if you are coming from the village, you can get a savings box and mark it with the name of the child. Can you begin to plan because it is always an insult if a pupil struggles and passes so well and then you begin to give lame excuses that I don’t have money?” the man of God wondered.
“It is very painful if a child finishes well and again you fail to take him/ her to the next level. This thing happened to me when I did my P.7 in 1977 and got a first grade and my father said there was no money because he was a financial dwarf at that time. I cried like never before,” he added.
Bishop Wakula also asked the teachers not to relax but to continue to organize remedial clinics for the candidates by meeting them at their deficiency points citing that the children need their teachers up to the time of sitting for their primary leaving examinations.
“The blessing of a teacher in an institution is the testimony of a student. After praying for these children, you don’t need to pack and go but continue to meet them because miracles can also happen on the last day,” he said before asking the candidates to forgo any other things and concentrate on their books.
Meanwhile, the district woman Member of Parliament for Iganga, Hon Kauma Sauda Alibaawo, who was the Chief Guest asked the government to ensure the quarter system of supporting children from poor backgrounds with loans to study at university and pay later.
“Iganga has not benefited from the programme because beneficiaries are doubtable, leaving Busoga super science students helpless. It is better to divide beneficiaries amongst the districts,” she emphasized.
The Honorable MP commended the school for the good track record in primary education and asked government teachers to commit themselves to their duties such that children in government schools can also perform well like those in private ones.
The director of the school Mrs. Justine Mpaabe commended the parents of the 171 candidates for paying school fees for them and asked the candidates to be committed to their books in the remaining days.
