TORORO: Suspect arrested with loaded gun hidden under bed

Tororo, (UG):– The Territorial Police in eastern Uganda’s Tororo District have recovered a firearm and ammunition hidden at the home of a local resident, Emodo Vincent, in Pereje Cell, Pereje Ward, Apokor Town Council.

The incident, according to police, was reported by Nyapendi Josephine who claimed that she had become possessed by holy spirits, prompting her to disclose the presence of the gun to Onyapidi Alfonse, who was conducting prayers at the time.

“On October 26, 2024, around 1700 hours in Pereje Cell, Pereje Ward, Apokor Town Council within Tororo District, police received a tip-off regarding a firearm located under the bed of Emodo Vincent,” police spokesperson ACP Rusoke Kituuma told journalists on Monday at Naguru headquarters.

“Police recovered an SMG rifle with a bullet already chambered. A further search of Emodo Vincent’s residence yielded one magazine containing 29 rounds of ammunition.”

Following the revelation, law enforcement swiftly acted, conducting a search at Emodo’s residence and despite his initial escape from his home, police managed to apprehend him on October 27, 2024 and is currently in custody.

“At the time the weapon was found, Emodo Vincent had fled to avoid arrest; however, police successfully apprehended him on October 27, 2024”, Kituuma noted, adding that investigations are ongoing to determine the origins and intended use of the weapon.
