Minister Balaam pledges support for youth skills

Kampala, (UG):- The Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, Hon Balaam Barugahara has promised to support youth skills because it’s the only way through which young people will get jobs

Balaam made the promise during the 2024 edition of the Mystery Jazz benefit concert which took place at the Sheraton ballroom on Friday 25th,October 2024.

“It is through youth skilling that young people like these instrumentalists will get jobs. I therefore support this cause of holding concerts to support youth,” he said

In his speech, the minister asked young people to take advantage of the 18 youth skilling centres which the government of Uganda established in different parts of the country’s

“The government has established 18 skilling centres in different parts of Uganda. Through them, youth are being trained with different skills that will help them create their own jobs,” he said

The organizer of the concert Mr. Innocent Sembirige said this year’s theme is aimed at promoting youth entrepreneurship skills through projects that are critical to addressing youth unemployment.

“Our aim is to equip young people with essential skills for a brighter future. This is why we invited youth entrepreneurs to come and exhibit their crafts at the concert. The other main objective of this concert, which takes place every year is to use Jazz music to drive positive social change,” he said

He further said that their goal is to see youth embrace projects and programs aimed at elevating them “if youth are trained and supported to their own jobs and businesses, they will be contributing to the social, economic development of their communities.”

The theme of the concert was Amplify and Elevate Youth featured the usual lineup of performers that included Moses Matovu of the Afrigo band, Ceaser Kajura, Happy Kyazze, Kohen Jaycee, Rosco Kayondo and Naava Grey who performed live with the support of the Beats Symphony Orchestra.
