Masaza Cup 2024 Finals
Buddu 1- 0 Kyaggwe
Third place
Buweekula 3-1 Kyadondo
Kampala, (UG):- Buddu secured their third Masaza Cup title, triumphing over Kyaggwe with a narrow 1-0 victory at Mandela National Stadium.
The match played in front of a vibrant crowd, saw Buddu’s Mike Walaga score the decisive goal, ensuring that the 2024 edition would be remembered as another landmark achievement for the team.
Buddu, aiming to add to their titles from 2016 and 2021, came out strong, controlling possession and dictating the pace.
The breakthrough came in the 34th minute when Walaga found the net, sending the Buddu supporters into ecstatic cheers.
Walaga’s strike proved to be the match’s only goal, leaving Buddu ahead at halftime with a 1-0 lead.
As the second half unfolded, Kyaggwe ramped up their efforts to level the score.
However, Buddu’s defence stood firm, denying several attempts. With 75 minutes played, the tension rose as Kyaggwe pressed for an equalizer, but Walaga’s goal continued to provide a crucial margin.
The referee added six minutes of stoppage time, yet despite their relentless pursuit, Kyaggwe could not find the back of the net, and Buddu held on for the victory.
Earlier in the day, Buweekula County secured third place with an impressive 3-1 victory over Kyadondo County.
A standout performance from Nyanzi, who netted a hat-trick within the first 70 minutes, set the tone for the match. Kyadondo’s Datham Mubiru managed a consolation goal, but it was not enough to turn the tide.
The match was graced by the presence of His Majesty Ssaabasajja Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, who attended the finals accompanied by Katikiro Charles Peter Mayiga.
This was a significant appearance, as the Kabaka had missed last year’s final, making this year’s event even more special for both teams and their supporters.
