Convict, defiles 14-year-old pupil in prison farm, impregnates her

Oyam, (UG):- A disturbing incident has come to light in Oyam District, where a convict, Emma Otim, serving his sentence at Loro Prison, allegedly impregnated a 14-year-old primary four pupil from Odike Primary School.

According to Santo Otia, the minor’s grandfather, the suspect was entrusted with guarding the prison farm and allegedly lured the girl into sexual intercourse when she visited their nearby garden in late September 2024.

Julius Peter Okello, headteacher of Odehe Primary School, expressed concern after the pupil’s four-week absence, only to discover her pregnancy. “We will follow up on this matter with the local leaders and prison authorities to ensure justice is served,” Okello said.

“I am told by a parent that the girl is pregnant and that she was impregnated by a prisoner. This means this thing happens when they go back home now and I request our local leaders around, they should get a way to talk to the prison officers so that they get a way of talking to these prisoners because these prisoners are left free by them also,” He added.

Fred Ojok, the secretary of the parent-teachers association, vowed to investigate and take action of the matter for justice to be served.

“So just recently we have learned of a P4 girl who stayed near the prison farm. She is reportedly pregnant. Me and the headteacher will take it up to follow up on who did that. But the information we got is that a prisoner who has been transferred to Oyam prison is the one who impregnated her. We will work with the headteacher to identify the perpetrator and ensure accountability,” Ojok said.

Efforts to obtain a statement from Loro Prison officials were unsuccessful by the time this story was filed and published, but the incident raises serious concerns about prison security, child protection, and accountability.
