Two security guards arrested after shooting colleague dead in Jinja

Jinja, (UG):- The Territorial Police in Jinja are holding two private security guards in custody following their arrest over links to the fatal shooting of Calvin Abia, a private security guard attached to Ultimate Security Limited who was assigned to a duty station in Buwenge, Jinja district.

The Kiira Regional Police Spokesperson SP James Mubi identified the detained private security guards as John Ssabagabo 20, and Patrick Obbo 40, all attached to Wolves Security Group Limited. The duo were guarding the MTN Service Centre in Buwenge town council, Jinja district.

“On Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at around 1 am, two assailants yet to be identified and arrested attacked the private guards deployed at MTN Service Centre,” SP Mubi said in a statement on Wednesday.

At the time of meeting his fate, he had left his deployment site and moved to check on his colleague identified as John Ssabagabo at MTN Service Centre with whom they had previously worked together at Wolves Security Group Limited in Jinja city.

“In the due course, the suspected murderers opened fire against the guards killing one identified as Calvin Abia attached to Ultimate Security Limited, the deceased was guarding EV Assets Management Company Limited,” Mubi added.

Police introduced their sniffer dog to the scene for some leads and one fired cartridge case was recovered pending submission to forensics for thorough analysis according to Mr Mubi, who confirmed that “prosecution-guided investigations are ongoing to have the culprits arrested and SAR rifle recovered.”

Police say Calvin Abia was shot with one bullet in the head and died instantly. By press time, the body of the deceased was still lying in Jinja Regional Referral Hospital mortuary pending postmortem examination.

SP Mubi appealed to the general public to share information that can lead to the arrest of the said suspects and pledged to treat the information shared with them with ultimate confidentiality.
