Masaka, (UG):- Masaka Chief Magistrate’s court has sentenced Stella Namwanje, the 34-year-old woman to spend 35 years in jail for feeding her neighbour’s 10-month-old baby with faeces and urine in a recent viral video.

Namwanje, a resident of Binyonyi A, Nyendo-Mukungwe Division in Masaka City was arrested after the video, captured by phone showed her defecating on the friend’s child and forcing the baby to eat the faeces as well as urine.

State Prosection led by George Kalinaki, told court on Thursday that Namwanje admitted committing the offence and upon examination, she was also found HIV positive, putting the baby’s life in danger.

Kalinaki added that the child was also examined and found with a healing wound on his left eye, an indication that the convict had tortured him in the process of feeding the baby on faecal matter.

In delivering his ruling, the court’s chief magistrate, His Lordship Aloysius Natwijuka described Namwanje’s character “not fit for society,” saying the actions of the convict were grave and barbaric- and she does not deserve lenience.

“I agree with the state that there is need to protect young innocent children from people like the convict. There are so many people out there who do the same to innocent children but go free,” Natwijuka said, adding that the jail term will serve as a deterrent message to people like Namwanje targeting innocent souls.

The magistrate however observed that the convict was a remorseful first-time offender who did not waste the court’s time. “I think she deserves a second chance when she serves her sentence. I will therefore sentence her to 35 years imprisonment,” Natwijuka ruled.

Namwanje who appeared remorseful for her actions had pleaded with court for forgiveness saying she “does not know what came over her” but her pleas fell on deaf ears as Natwijuka held the sentence as ruled.
