The residents were on Friday reporting to the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Thomas Bangirana Tayebwa during the celebration of Youths Day at Irondo Primary School in Namutumba district. Kiwanyi Sub County happens to be one of the four newly created Sub Counties in Namutumba District and according to local leaders; this was aimed at bringing services nearer to the people, something which continues to be a challenge.

Locals say they get a challenge to sell their agricultural produce since transportation continues to be a challenge. They asked the speaker to support their leaders in having the challenges worked on.

The chairperson of LCV Namutumba district Mr. Mukisa David has attributed the poor road network to the absence of road equipment, where he cited that the district has only one equipment which also handles sub-county roads. He also attributed it to low financing for the district projects.

The woman Member of Parliament for Namutumba district Hon. Mariam Naigaga asked for a special fund to the district to handle issues in the district. She raised the issue of the absence of a health centre and poor road network in addition to the absence of electricity.

“As we struggle to get a health centre in the area, it would be good Hon. Minister to work on the roads which will enable our people to access these services. They have been promising to give us power but it is quite long and patience is gone, we ask you to take our concerns and devise a special fund for Namutumba,” Hon Naigaga said.

The speaker Rt. Hon. Tayebwa, who was represented by Minister Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo pledged to forward the concerns to the responsible offices, especially on the issues which were raised by the locals.

He pledged to forward money Shs100m for the rehabilitation of the 15-kilometre road from Mazuba-Namalemba-Irondo and he assured the locals that the money will be disbursed even before the elections of 2026.

“The budget for the Sub County road is small and I pledge it. I have told the CAO to serve me with papers on Monday such that I ask the president for this support. We are going to send Shs100m purposely to work on the 15-kilometer road and it will pass through the district,” Hon. Kasolo pledged.

He was not happy with the civil servants especially those handling government projects like the Parish Development Model (PDM) and others in the production department after shunning the function. He said they were meant to give accountability to the youths through the platform.

He warned all those trying to mismanage government programmes like the PDM and Emyooga and asked whoever has ever taken bribes from beneficiaries for such programmes to refund it or face consequences. Kasolo said they will soon visit Namutumba district to clean any leakage in government programmes.

Minister Kasolo said they will ensure a health centre is introduced to the Sub County to support the people in terms of health.
