Entebbe Airport hosts safety week to boost aviation standards

Entebbe, Uganda: The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), in partnership with aviation stakeholders operating at Entebbe International Airport, has launched a five-day Safety Week to promote safety culture within the aviation sector.

Speaking during the launch on Monday, November 11, 2024, UCAA Director General Mr. Fred K. Bamwesigye said the activities lined up throughout the week include safety talks, technical presentations, themed messages, and safety drills, all designed to reinforce awareness and best practices around aviation safety.

“I urge all stakeholders to actively participate in these activities, constructively challenge each other, and share best practices. Safety is a shared responsibility between airport operators, airlines, and all service providers,” Bamwesigye said.

Bamwesigye highlighted that Entebbe International Airport has maintained a commendable safety record over the years. He pointed to the September 2023 ICAO audit, where Uganda scored 72.2%, as a reflection of this consistency.

“Several such international safety audits have been conducted over the years, and Uganda has never registered a Significant Safety Concern (SSC),” Bamwesigye noted.

Running under the theme ‘Safe Airports, Stronger Together,’ the Safety Week offers a platform for all stakeholders to reflect on milestones achieved in maintaining aviation safety while reaffirming their commitment to advancing the aviation industry’s growth through adherence to safety standards.

UCAA emphasized that this initiative is aligned with Uganda’s broader goal of maintaining compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards and strengthening the country’s reputation within the global aviation industry.
