Mubende, (UG):- Renowned philanthropist and aspiring Member of Parliament for Buwekula South, Mr Dedan Mubangizi successfully led a fundraising drive over the weekend with proceedings amounting to over 120 million shillings channelled towards the construction of the only church school in Kayebe, Mubende District.
Held Saturday, November 9, at the school, the fundraiser brought together Mubangizi’s close associates, government officials, and church leaders, resulting in a total of 120 million Ugandan shillings raised, with 90 million received as cash on hand.
The fundraiser, organized by the leadership of St. Mark Kayebe Secondary School in collaboration with the local church, sought Mubangizi’s leadership due to his longstanding dedication to the community.
Known for his philanthropic efforts, Mubangizi has impacted lives in Buwekula South through initiatives that address both immediate needs and long-term development. He was on Saturday joined by friends including Kazo MP Dan Kimosho and Mubende Woman MP Hope Grania Nakazibwe.
Mubangizi’s commitment to improving health services in the area is well recognized; he previously donated an ambulance and CT scan equipment to the local Health Center IV, and he recently organized a free medical camp that treated over 10,000 patients, many of whom had critical health needs.
During the event, he passionately appealed to attendees, underscoring the long-term benefits the church school would provide for generations to come. He emphasized the unique role the facility would play in the community, combining spiritual guidance with access to education for local youth.
The significance of the Kayebe church-school project, which serves as both a place of worship and education, resonated with donors who came from all walks of life to support Mubangizi’s cause.
Beyond healthcare, Mubangizi has also been a champion for youth development and local sports. Earlier this year, he organized a football tournament that drew young talent from across Buwekula South.
The incoming legislator also rewarded the winning clubs with livestock, a gesture aimed at encouraging both small-scale agriculture and sports, portraying a multifaceted approach to community improvement that has made him a popular figure in the constituency.
Following the successful fundraiser, Mubangizi expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the community, saying, “The generosity we have witnessed today is a testament to the strength of our community spirit. Together, we are building a legacy that will serve both the spiritual and educational needs of future generations.”
Mubangizi’s role in this campaign [of church school completion] not only reinforces his reputation as a dedicated community leader but also reflects his commitment to fostering a future where education, faith, and opportunity thrive in Buwekula South.
Meanwhile, Mubende District Woman MP Hope Grania Nakazibwe, who contributed shs1 million, promised to follow up with the relevant authorities to ensure St. Mark becomes a government-aided school.
“Just a few weeks ago, we delivered 150 iron sheets from the Office of the Prime Minister under the Luwero-Rwenzori project. We hope the government will support this school,” she said.
Nakazibwe also thanked the Dedan Foundation for mobilizing friends and raising shs 100 million, calling it a great achievement for Mubende residents.
“We know the government tends to support already-established community schools. Thanks to the Dedan Foundation for this initiative, and to all of you locals who came out in large numbers to support our school.”
Buwekula South consists of three sub-counties and one town council, yet it has only one government secondary school. This is contrary to the policy that each sub-county should have a government secondary school.
