26-year-old expectant mother electrocuted to death in Mbale

Mbale, (UG):- The Territorial Police in Mbale Industrial Division are investigating the circumstances under which an eight-month pregnant mother died as a result of electrocution.

The deceased, identified as Nafuna Hellen, a female adult, 26, and a housewife, was a resident of Cissy Cell, Namatala Ward, Mbale Industrial Division according to police reports whose death was reported to police by the husband, Bilawe Emmanuel, a businessman within the area.

Elgon Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Rogers Taitika confirmed the incident, adding that preliminary information says Nafuna was electrocuted as she was reportedly mopping her single rented room before falling down unconscious and later pronounced dead on arrival at a health centre.

“It is alleged that today on 12th November 2024 at around 1300hrs Nafuna Hellen a businesswoman in Cissy Cell was in her room mopping and all of a sudden got heated up by electricity. Her husband Bilawe Emmanuel found his wife unconscious called the neighbors and rushed her to the nearby clinic where she was pronounced dead,” SP Taitika said.

Upon learning about the incident, police in Mbale rushed to the scene and recorded statements from the eyewitnesses before conveying the deceased’s body to the city mortuary for postmortem examination.

Police inspected the scene and observed that there was the illegal connection of electricity in a single rented room and inquiries from the deceased’s husband Mr Bilawe confirmed that his wife was pregnant

Police have started inquiries into the matter to establish the exact cause of electrocution however, by press time, police had yet to hand over the body to relatives for burial arrangements after a postmortem examination at Mbale city mortuary.
