Busia, (UG):- The Territorial Police in Bukedi South Region are holding in custody a male adult arrested on charges of a rape incident which resulted in the murder of an elderly woman in Busia district on Sunday evening.

The Regional police spokesperson, Mr Mugwe Johnson Moses identified the suspect as Bwire Davis Olujaru, a male Adult and a resident of Buganiro Village, Bulwenge Parish, Buhehe Sub County in Busia District who is said to have to raped and later killed the deceased, one Taaka Mary Namukuba a resident of the same village.

“He is now under arrest,” IP Mugwe said of the suspect, adding; “This incident happened in Buganiro Village, Bulwenge Parish, Buhehe Sub County in Busia District on 10/11/2024 at around 1700 hrs.”

Preliminary police investigations suggest that the suspect on Sunday entered the house of the old woman and raped her before pushing a stick into the private part of the victim, something which disturbed the old woman’s grandson who first appeared to rescue the victim. The suspect later escaped from the scene of the crime but police have since succeeded in arresting him.

“Wafula Victor heard an alarm coming from the house of his grandmother one Taaka Mary Namukuba, and on responding to the alarm, he saw one Bwire David Olujara coming out of the house and when he entered to check on the grandmother, he saw a stick which had been pushed in the private parts of the grandmother and it had penetrated up to the neck,” IP Mugwe noted.

“Upon noticing the gruesome incident, Wafula immediately called his grandfather, one Odwori Malingu who responded and asked the wife what had happened and she revealed to him that their neighbour Bwire had raped her and pushed a stick inside her private part.”

Mr Odwori pulled out the stick that had blood and took it to Buhehe Police Post, and then rushed the victim to Masafu Hospital Medical attention before succumbing to injuries the following day.

“However, at 1130hrs of 11/11/2024, the victim who had been admitted at Masafu Government Hospital passed on,” Mugwe added.

Daily Express understands that the suspect Bwire David Olujara was arrested and subjected to medical examination but preliminary findings linked him to being a drug addict.

Police said they have initiated serious investigations into the matter to establish the actual cause of the gruesome incident that took a life.
