Kikuube, (UG):- State Minister for Public Service Hon Mary Grace Mugasa has directed the Kikuube District RDC to arrest locals who are sabotaging government programs through semitism and theft of people’s properties.
The minister was responding to the RDC’s decry of increased livestock theft in Kikuube District coupled with members of Bunyoro Kitara Reparations Agency (Bukitarepa) who are spreading wrong information to the public stopping them from applying for land titles which they term to be an empty promise by the government.
Ms. Mugasa who represented the Minister of Trade and Cooperatives as the chief guest at the launch of the Kikuube Albertine Diary Cooperative Society Limited at Buhimba Town Council headquarters said that such activities are deterring community development.
It should be recalled, that the government of Uganda through Systematic Land demarcation donated 200000 land titles to Kikuube District residents at a subsidized price of 85000shs to enable the vulnerable community to secure land titles, but members of Bukitarepa have been urging their fellows to not apply for the titles saying that it’s unethical to apply for a title for your own land.
Hon Mugasa also asked the locals to refrain from laziness saying Bunyoro region has been lagging due to people’s unwillingness to work and thanked the KAD members for a good initiative.
Meanwhile, Amlan Tumusiime the Kikuube RDC vowed to wage war on land grabbers, livestock thieves plus the Bukitarepa members and also asked the government to equipment Buhimba police posts with more personnel and also install the anti livestock police to address the cattle theft which have left many Ugandans poor despite of their tireless work.
Peter Banura the Kikuube District governor thanked the KAD members for the good initiative and promised the Kikuube District local government’s cooperation with the group through technical, financial, market research and road infrastructure development for the smooth running of the cooperative.
Banura also asked government for the equipment support to the cooperative farmers to enhance the processing of their Diary products.
James Nsaiga the KAD chairperson urged the government for the maximum support to their cooperative which he said despite their one-year operation since initiation, they still have a lot t of challenges ranging from limited finance, and equipment among others.
