Kampala, (UG):- The Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Hon Betty Amongi has been picked and assigned huge responsibility to ensure the success of the Ateker Festival, a high-profile festival expected to draw Heads of States from East Africa.
Hon Amongi, the chairperson of the organizing committee for the festival which is scheduled to kick off on 26th November in Soroti City briefed H.E President Yoweri Museveni on the arrangements and progress during a Thursday meeting at State House, Entebbe.
Four Heads of States have so far confirmed their presence and among them include Presidents Salva Kiir Mayardit of the Republic of South Sudan, Dr William Somei Ruto of Kenya, H.E Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania and H.E Taye Atske Selassie of Ethiopia.
A beehive of activities is expected to take precedence on the first day of the festival which will run for four days and among them include the arrival of delegations, elders dialogue, youth and women’s dialogue and tree planting.
Other notable activities on the second day are public assemblies, the arrival of invited guests, the arrival of President Museveni, a tour of the exhibition and cultural village, the official opening ceremony, and cultural night among others.
Uganda was selected to host the 2024 Ateker Tobonguu Lore (Come Back Home) cultural festival.
Tobongu Lore festival always brings together the Ateker community which comprises Karamojong, Iteso of Uganda and Kenya, the Turkana of Kenya, the Toposa of South Sudan and the Nyangatom of Ethiopia.
Atekers are a distinct group of people with closely related customs, language, and lifestyle and who share a common ancestry.
