Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital (MRRH) has received a significant boost in its emergency care services with a donation of medical equipment worth $35,000 (about Shs 128 million) from Seed Global Health.

The consignment, handed over to Acting Hospital Director Dr. Deus Twesigye, includes patient monitors, suction machines, oxygen concentrators, patient trollies, and defibrillators.

The donated equipment, including patient monitors and defibrillators, will enable healthcare professionals to provide timely and effective care. Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital has established itself as a premier emergency care centre in western Uganda, training 21 emergency physicians in the past five years.

Dr Andrew Twineamatsiko, Program Manager at Seed Global Health revealed the equipment will enhance the hospital’s Accidents and Emergency Department and support the training of medical students from Mbarara University of Science and Technology.

“Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital is a critical training centre, and we believe that investing in a health worker has an overall improvement in patient care,” Dr Twineamatsiko said.

Mbarara Hospital acting ED, Dr Twesigye expressed gratitude for the donation, noting that the equipment complements existing medical tools and replaces outdated ones.

With over 1,000 to 1,500 patients seeking emergency services monthly, the hospital’s biomedical engineers emphasize the importance of regular equipment maintenance.

Mr Halson Kagure, the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, reported a significant reduction in 24-hour mortality rates due to the hospital’s disciplinary team of health workers, including emergency physicians.

Looking forward, the hospital with the support of Seed Global aims to train 120 emergency physicians by 2030. This milestone will not enhance patient care but also cement the hospital’s hub reputation as a hub for exceptional medical training in the region.
