Two arrested over suspected stolen cow meat in Mbale

Mbale City, (UG):- The Territorial Police at Mbale CPS is holding in custody two men arrested over suspicion of being involved in the possession of stolen property, specifically cow meat in the Industrial Division of Mbale City.

The suspects identified as Watibini Martin and Wabudeya Moses, both hailing from Bunefure village in Bugobero Sub-County, Manafwa District were apprehended following a swift police operation carried out on November 19, 2024, at approximately 7:30 AM in Bubirabi Cell, Namitala Ward.

The incident unfolded when officers from Half Landon Police Post alerted Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mulali Mustapha, the Officer in Charge of Operations at Mbale Central Police, about suspicious activities at a local residence.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered the garage of the house was open. Inside, they found two men cleaning large quantities of meat.

As police approached, the suspects attempted to flee, armed with pangas (machetes). In the ensuing chase, both men were shot in the thighs after resisting arrest. They were subsequently transported to a nearby referral hospital for medical treatment, found in a pool of blood and pretending to be unconscious.

At the scene of the incident, police recovered a Toyota vehicle with registration number UBL 230 B, which bore blood stains, further implicating the suspects in the alleged crime.

Inside the garage of the residence, law enforcement discovered a significant quantity of suspected stolen meat, including five heads of cattle, twenty legs, as well as internal organs such as livers, kidneys, and hearts, all without intestines and have been secured pending disposal via a court order.

Upon investigation, officers noted that the house was devoid of any other property, with all rooms left open and empty, raising further suspicions about the criminal activities occurring there.

ASP Mulali confirmed that inquiries are still ongoing as police work to unravel the full extent of the operation and any additional individuals involved.
