Wakiso, (UG):- Natasha Museveni Karugire has commissioned a newly reconstructed girl’s dormitory at Uganda Women’s Effort to Save Orphans (UWESO) Children’s Home in Masulita.

Natasha commissioned the dormitory on Thursday, November 21, 2024, on behalf of her mother, who doubles as the first lady of the Republic of Uganda, Mrs. Janet Museveni.

“I thank God so much for this work, for the progress we have seen here at Masulita,” she said thanking the partners who supported the construction of the dormitory.

Mrs. Jolly Kamugira, CEO of UWESO, thanked everyone who contributed towards the project, noting that UWESO wouldn’t be making progress without support from well-wishers. She further said the organization needs more funds to support the thousands of children it receives.

“As Uweso, we are honoured that we are celebrating a donation from our donors; without you, we wouldn’t be where we are. I want to thank you for the work that you have done. I know it is just the beginning, and we are moving forward with you,” Mrs Kamugira said.

The reconstruction of the dormitory was spearheaded by Chop Gaming Limited as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The company MD, Allan Tumushabe expressed gratitude for having contributed to the reconstruction of the dormitory.

“As Chop Gaming Limited we are truly honoured to have contributed to the building of this dormitory. We all know that every child deserves a conducive environment for learning and to blossom. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to everyone who played a role in bringing this dormitory to life,” he said.

The commissioning was also attended by Mr David Aggrey Kibenge, the permanent secretary to the Ministry of Gender, who gave assurance that the Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development is committed to offering hope to children across the country.

Kibenge also noted with concern that the growing number of street children, mainly from the Karamoja region, is due to high poverty levels and poor parenting.

The reconstruction of the dormitory at UWESO children’s home follows a fundraising dinner held at State House in November 2023. The dinner, hosted by President Yoweri Museveni and first lady Janet Museveni, raised funds to support UWESO’s work. Natasha Museveni said the money raised is still in safe custody as it is yet to serve its purpose.
