Police speak out after Nyanjura brother killed in Ntinda mobile money shop raid

Kampala, (UG):- The Police in Kampala Metropolitan have confirmed the fatal shooting of one and injuring of another following a suspected aggravated robbery in Ntinda, a Kampala suburb on Thursday evening.

The KMP Deputy Publicist, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the aggravated robbery which tragically claimed one person, later identified as Tugume Albert Cook, a brother to Deputy Kampala Lord Mayor, Ms Doreen Nyanjura.

“Kira Road Police have responded to a scene of aggravated robbery in Ntinda. Tragically, one person has been confirmed dead, and another sustained injuries. Further details will be provided as soon as possible,” ASP Owoyesigyire said in a brief statement via his official X handle Thursday evening.

The KMP spokesperson’s statement came minutes after Nyanjura confirmed the passing of her brother on her X handle saying Tugume was first abducted from his mobile money shop along Central Road near Fraine Supermarket in Ntinda-Kigoowa before being fatally shot by the gunmen.

“My brother Tugume Albert Cook has been abducted on gunpoint from Central Road, Ntinda Kigowa road. One person has been shot dead. He operates a mobile money shop,” Nyanjura posted at 8.42 pm via her official X account.

In a second post at 8.57 pm, Nyanjura confirmed Tugume’s death saying; “My brother has been killed.”

Details surrounding the robbery and the amount of money/property taken by the thugs were still scanty at the time of filing this update.
